Peggy’s Healing Journey: From IBS to Gut Health Wellness
For most of my adult life, starting at just thirteen, I suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), that frustrating catch-all diagnosis. My attacks came on without warning or clear cause, and they left me completely exhausted. To manage the symptoms, my gastroenterologist prescribed a mix of antispasmodics and narcotic painkillers. I never left home without them and I always knew where the nearest bathroom was.
By 2016, things took a turn for the worse. My IBS symptoms weren’t occasional anymore, they were daily. Nausea, bloating, cramping, gas, heartburn, and stomach pain became my reality. I was losing weight and afraid to eat. Food, which should nourish, had become a source of fear. I was afraid to eat and some days lived on black tea with honey.
For over two years, I searched for answers through endless research, medical tests, specialist appointments, and dietary change, until I finally discovered something called SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth). With the help of my naturopath, I got tested. The result was positive, and I began several rounds of treatment. Through targeted diets, prescription medications, and natural supplements, I slowly began to heal. For the first time in years, I had hope.
Today, I feel better than I can ever remember. I’m thriving. I haven’t had an IBS attack in years and I no longer rely on any prescriptions. Nutrition played a key role in my healing. It changed my life and ignited a deep desire to learn more. What started as a personal goal became a passion. I studied for my holistic nutritionist and health coach diploma, and along the way, I realized I wanted to help others reclaim their health too.
Now, I offer personalized nutrition counseling and gut health coaching, guiding others toward relief and empowerment. If you’re struggling with IBS, SIBO, or other digestive issues, you don’t have to navigate it alone.
“The wise man should consider that health is the greatest of human blessings. Let food be your medicine.” ~Hippocrates
